Paraquat Training Information

Jan 17, 2020

Do you use Gramaxone or paraquat on your farm or operation? Be sure to read the following information from  Syngenta® on changes that will affect your ability to apply paraquat in the upcoming season.

Beginning on November 14, 2019
All product entering the market will have the new amended label and supplemental warning materials.
  • Applicators, mixers and loaders must be certified applicators
    • Non-certified applicators will no longer be allowed to mix, load, or apply paraquat under the supervision of certified applicators (i.e., prohibiting use by uncertified persons working under the supervision of a certified applicator)
    • Kansas will allow commercial applicators to hold a private applicator license (rather than a 1A) as long as they also work under the supervision of someone with a 1A commercial applicators license from the same retail location. Please refer to the website below for clarification.

  • Instructions on how to become a certified applicator can be found at:
https://www.epa.gov/pesticide-worker-safety/how-to-get-certified-pesticide-applicator

  • Applicators, mixers and loaders must complete EPA training on How to Safely Use and Handle Paraquat Containing Products
    • Training will be hosted by the National Pesticide Safety Education Center (NPSEC)
    • After completing the training, paraquat applicators must pass a test with a score of 100%. Training must be completed every 3 years
  • On-line paraquat training can be found at  www.usparaquattraining.com
With Gramoxone SL 2.0 applications completed for the 2019 season, now is a great time to prepare for the required changes for application in 2020.
